(1) dbSNP Curator: Computercraft Corporation (NIH Contractor)
Job Function: Research, Scientist
Job Division: NIH - NCBI
Education: Doctoral
Years Experience Desired: Completed Postdoc

Molecular Biologist to curate database records for mutations in gene sequences onsite at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. Our scientists work with genomic experts at NIH's National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to create and enhance a suite of databases and tools available to researchers worldwide. We are currently looking for a molecular biologist to help curate database records of mutations in gene sequences between Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) and the Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms database (dbSNPs).

This challenging position requires a PhD with a background in mutation analysis and technical familiarity with sequence analysis software such as BLAST. The successful candidate will read primary literature, referenced in OMIM or identified in PubMed searches/neighbor lists, and confirm the correct correspondence between protein mutations and nucleotide variations. Database curation includes verifying the computed relationships between OMIM records and existing SNP records and resolving any ambiguities in addition to creating new SNP records for OMIM mutations not known to dbSNP. Future responsibilities may include mining literature databases and connect publications describing specific mutations to the appropriate record(s) in dbSNP.

Teamwork interaction, excellent verbal communication as well as written and organizational skills are essential for this position.

For consideration please submit cover letter, resume/CV, salary history, salary requirements, and U.S. employment eligibility (you must currently reside in the U.S. and be eligible to work).
