Hi Shuiqing:

I was so glad to hear from you that the HBMU OVERSEAS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
would have a Chinese new year party. I am sure all scholars and their
family members will have great time to celebrate the first lunar new
year of the new millennium. If it is posible, would you please pass the
following information to the scholars during the gethering.

During my visit last November, I had a very productive meeting with
several officers from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Wuhan
People's Government and Wuhan Overseas Exchanges Association. They want
to invite scholars who have the intention to bring new technology back
to homeland to visit Wuhan in year 2001. Any area including biotech,
computer, agriculture and information management, is welcome. The Office
will pay for the costs of accommodation and transportation in China and
be responsible for arrange the meeting between each scholar and company
or office. I think it is a great opportunity for scholars who schedule
to visit China this year and have possible projects to bring home to
make a contribution to homeland development and to make money. If any
one is interested, please contact me either by phone (323-442-2968) or
e-mail (jianping @ hsc . usc . edu). I will relay the information to the
Office and coordinate for the time and duration of the visit.

A briefing is needed from each scholar to describe the proposed project
before the visit so that the Office could make arrangements in advance
and it will also will make the visit more productive. For the scholars
who are interested, I would like to point out that although possible for
basic science project, products orientated projects will be better fit
the current needs of China and will have better chance to be approved.
