The College and Hospital of Stomatology of Hubei Medical University founded in 1960 and is situated at the brink of the beautiful East Lake in Wuhan, Hubei, China. It has an area of 45. 000 sq. m. and building area of 35,000 sq. m. It is the first and the largest college / hospital of stomatology in Central China, and it is one of the major bases of stomatological education in China.

The College aims at improving the level of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental, oral and maxillofacial diseases. At present it has a personnel of over 500, including 55 professors and associate professors, 80 lecturers and 65 assistants or residents.

With regard to education, the College enrolls 60 undergraduate students for D.D.S, 25 graduate students for MS or Ph.D. degree and 50 residents for advanced training each year. The basic courses of medicine are given on the university campus and at the college.

The Hospital has a capacity of 160 sets of dental units in the outpatient department and 150 beds in the ward. 25,0000 out patients and 1,500 inpatients are treated annually. To provide convenience for outpatients, the hospital has opened two comprehensive dental clinics in Hankou, downtown area of Wuhan, since 1990.

The Research Institute consists of four research deparments with modern and advanced facilities and instruments, including the Basic Research, the Clinical Research, the Dental Material and the Information of Stomatology, It mainly carries out research projects of the state and Hubei province.

The College is involved in research activities that include: caries aetiology; developmental biology of dental pulp; biological characteristics of human salivary protiens; pharmacology of chinese herbs; oral pathology; study of oral carcinoma; orthognathic surgery and oral prosthology. Faculty also pursue research in dental materials, clinical trials, practice administration, quality assurance, behavioral sciences and dental delivery systems. In addition, the College faculty collaborate on projects with medical geneticists, oncologists, pharmacologists and engineers. A journal named Journal of Comprehensive Stomatology, which is distributed at home and abroad, is edited and published by the college.

Many foreign students are studying in the college for their D.D.S. or MS degrees or for advanced training. Each year a lot of foreign specialists and scholars come to the college for visits, lectures and academic exchanges.
