I wish everybody a wonderful New Year. As I am badly ill-informed, I probably missed a lot of good news about our alumni so we didn't have a chance to share it. Pardon me. However, I have to pass this one to our friend. Zhiming Zheng is going to assume a tenure-track position at NIH starting from the Chinese New Year. What a good time to start up a wonderful independent career. Congratulations! Also, Xiang-Jin Meng at Virginia Tech and James Jianming Hu at Boston have been doing very well as a University faculty. They all got funded to do their research. Congratulations! Dr. Ye Shuiqing visited our alma mater before the end of last year. He was informed that our University has been ranked very high among Medical Schools in China. One source have given us as high as No. 16 out of over 150 Medical Schools in China. Congratulations again for their hard work. I encourage everybody to share their good news with us. We are planing a holiday gathering now to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the return of Macao to our motherland. I have set a tentative date on January 29, 2000 (Saturday). I'll let you know the exact time and location as soon as it becomes available. Please mark your calendar and plan to be there. It will be lots of fun when old friends are all in one place. Here I also want to solicit nomination for our next President Elect. Please be prepared to serve for our Association. K. Ren
